  2. The user has to buy another lens for better pictures and videos.

5. Canon 77D

Earlier in the year 2017, Canon reinvigorated the market of mirrorless cameras.

It was made so that the beginners could have a taste of what it was like to use a mirrorless camera. The new models also make some higher-end features, like the Dual Pixel autofocus system, more accessible to users.

The 77Ds body weighs 540 grams and is lighter than that of the 80D. It comes with rubber grips for either side of your palms and the back of the thumb. One of the downsides of the model is that it does not have any weather sealing, but it can handle

a little sprinkle.

It comes with a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor with Canon’s DIGIC 7 image processor.

It has a decent ISO range of 100-25600 and its shutter speed ranges from 30 to 1/4000 sec. It provides burst shooting at 6 fps (frames per second)

The camera comes with 45 AF(auto-focus) points along with phase detection pixels on the sensor for video and live view. The sad part about this is, you can only shoot videos at 1080p at 60fps. The Canon 77D has something called ‘Guided Mode’, this gives you a visual representation of what you can expect from shots based on which way you adjust the slider.

The ISO on this model is set on preset, i.e, you cannot change it to half or one-thirds but it does supply you with sharp pictures till 1600. The sharpness does take a hit when you ramp it up to 3200 but the pictures still come noise-free.

In daylight, the 77D does a good job of capturing accurate colors and good detail. I found that the 18-135mm lens isn’t all that sharp, and this is evident in the slightly soft shots I got. There is a very mild chromatic aberration in some scenes but it’s mostly kept in check. Thankfully, we didn’t have trouble with other artifacts like barrel distortion in our pictures.

‘HDR art standard’ combines three consecutive exposures to give you an HDR photo, the first one captures the shadows of the scene, the second picture captures the mid-tones and the final picture is taken with the highlights of the scene. After that, all the three images are compiled together by the camera to provide us with the result that consists of average amount shadow, mid-tones, and highlights.’HDR art bold’ boost colors to give the picture an oil painting effect and all these effects apply to videos also. You get a 3 inches 1.04m-Dot Vari-Angle articulating touchscreen LCD with this model which means the user can take pictures in pretty tricky situations with ease.

Features:

  • Digic 7 image processor, Iso 100-25600.
  • Vari-angle touch screen, 3.0-Inch LCD.
  • Optical viewfinder with a 45-point all cross-type AF system.

Pros:

  1. Pretty decent image quality if you’re not pixel peeping, or printing large above ISO 800.
  2. Fantastic autofocus.
  3. Incredible battery life.
  4. Solid feel yet lightweight.
  5. If you’re a Canon user, the controls are intuitive.
  6. WiFi, NFC, and beaming to Canon’s printers.
  7. An interesting approach to the on/off switch.
  8. The mode dial is an interesting yet subtle nod to the retro ergonomics that Canon has been fighting so hard.
  9. The tilt and swivel LCD screen is beautiful.
  10. Canon continues to have a great menu system.

Cons:

  1. I wish it had more direct AF point control
  2. I seriously wish that Canon would have made a full-frame version of this camera instead of yet another APS-C camera. This camera deserves a full-frame sensor
  3. Pricey for an APS-C sensor DSLR, especially when there are fantastic deals on the Nikon D5000 series cameras, the Sony a6000, and the Fujifilm X-T20; which are all arguably better in some way or another.

Conclusion

There is nothing more to say on this topic and if you’re reading this, I think you’ve already made up your mind on which model you want to buy. Needless to say that you would get pretty much the same features on a Nikon for a budget of 50000. Photography is a hobby and whatever you think is stopping you from it, don’t pay heed to that. JUST GO FOR IT.
